Highlight:

Made the most of my many coffee bags and the kettle this morning with two coffees.  There was 20 walkers at the camp, including 3 Emma's. There was a couple waves of people getting ready and heading off.

Checking my calculator, I let the the guy from Mexico know 30km was 18mile. He recommends the PCT. I said bye to the couple from the Netherlands.

One walkers I spoke with was a member on the Waikato TA trust. He wanted to hear what parts need work (Mangakewa & Mercer). He mentioned getting the trail back into Huanua is on the 5 year plan, and a removing SH2 as an interim.

On the beach I first can across Michelle from Nelson. Her feet were blistered and she had made a early start.
Then came the mother, and daughter I had meet on the bus on Sunday. They told me about the 3 rides and many hours it took to get Cape Reinga, others had shuttled.

I sat on a log and had lunch with 2 others, who where also on the bus. He had chosen TA due to the lack of dangerous animals, been delayed with boarder closures. But had since meet and convinced the girlfriend to come.
Then  I passed by a kiwi two (one in my matching green jumper), they wished me a early congrats.

The last person I saw, said he came from Tiwghlight...I a was a bit confused, 60km day day two. Tom was the exception, an ultra runner fresh from France.

Camp convo..we talked about

  • traveling solo with out expectations of others
  • X-mid tent
  • Australia walks x2. 1000 km near Perth, and 14 day in the red something
  • South Island Te Araroa
  • Dinner

Challenge:

The last half of the walking day, seamed slow. There was no more tramper size shapes in the distance. Land marks consisted of sandy hill, green hill, flat sand, and one of four vehicles.

Without reception, I had switched to an auidobook late yesterday. The next book club book, The Song of Achilles. Glad i'm not reading it.

Exposed campsite, I pitched behind hill and tank on some longer grass.
